Start with the bank
Many banks and card issuers let you switch on a gambling block in the app, and some add a cooling-off period before it can be turned off again. Do this first – it stops the money, not just the website.
Delete the apps and the saved cards
Remove every gambling app and every saved card in browsers, wallets and app stores. Friction matters: having to type a card number gives you the 30 seconds you need to change your mind.
Block on the phone
Use screen-time restrictions or a dedicated gambling blocker to block gambling categories and specific sites. Let someone else set the passcode if you can – then you can't quietly unlock it at 1 a.m.
Block on the computer
Install a blocker in every browser you use, and block the sites at router or DNS level if you can. Check incognito windows too – that's the gap people usually leave open.
Block the betting accounts you didn't sign up for
Old accounts on sites you forgot about still hold your details and keep emailing you. Delete them or ask each site to close the account, then unsubscribe from the emails so the offer never reaches your inbox.
Clean out the ads
Unsubscribe from gambling emails, mute and unfollow betting accounts, and block gambling ads in your feeds. You don't have to negotiate with an offer that never reaches you.
Tell one person what you did
Say it out loud to someone you trust: what you blocked and when. Not for accountability theatre, but because a secret urge is much harder to ride out than a spoken one.
Check it again in a month
Blocks expire, phones get replaced and new sites appear. Put a reminder in your calendar to check that every layer is still in place.
Common questions
What is the fastest way to block gambling sites?
Start with your bank app. Most banks and card issuers have a gambling block you can switch on in a minute, and it stops the money rather than one website at a time. Add a phone or browser blocker after that.
Will blocking sites stop the cravings?
No, and that's normal. Blocks remove the opportunity, not the urge. They buy you the 20 minutes a craving usually needs to pass, which is why they work best next to a plan for what to do instead.
Do free blockers work as well as paid ones?
For most people yes. Built-in screen-time controls, DNS blocking and a free browser extension cover the everyday routes in. A paid tool adds value mainly when you want someone else to hold the passcode.
What about sites that appear after I block them?
New domains show up all the time, so block categories rather than single sites where you can, and check your layers once a month. Offshore and crypto casinos often sit outside official schemes.
